Day 3!

Today was the first day of classes! We only missed the center by one block (after asking someone ha) so we are learning our way slowly but surely. Class is from 9-1pm every day but Tuesdays. On Tuesdays we have required visits to different cultural monuments, which is super nice!

Class goes by very slowly but we do have an air-conditioning unit in our classroom. I am taking the Spanish theater class this session so we will be learning about different types of Spanish theater like comedia (comedy), tragedia (tragedy) and drama. We do get a break around 11 for a half hour. Already being hungry (our breakfast is only toast and coffee, which doesn’t stick with me too long ha) so Jenny and I went and experienced our first churros. They would have been better earlier in the morning, just made fresh but they were still very good.

When class ended at 1pm we headed home for lunch. Our Señora made us this delicious pasta soup like dish with potatoes, noodles, like a tomato cream broth and these tiny little clams. I was in heaven! It was so good, and she served it with bread and seasoned tomatoes. I don’t think I will have to worry about the food at all because everything seems to be agreeing with me and I haven’t had anything I did not like so far! After lunch was the inevitable siesta, which this time we decided to take a 2 hour nap! It seemed to make us more tired but was still nice :)
After our nap we tried to find the nearest Internet café, since this Internet is still not working in our casa. The closest one, Starbucks, was almost to the Center where we have our classes so we might just have to go there next time. Plus we wont have to buy a drink then! It was nice to be able to talk to my mom again, but communication is still very limited. Facebook seems to be the easiest since it’s on my phone and is included in the monthly bill.

Well tonight was the first night we decided to explore the nightlife of Seville. Nothing happens till 11:30 or later here so it can be a very late night. We went to one club/discoteca first but there was like no one there, only one large group of like a birthday or bridal/bachelor party. And drinks were 7 euro; we left after about half hour. We then found a bar with outdoor patio and tables and chairs. Drinks there were much cheaper and it was a much better atmosphere so we just sat there and chatted till about 3 or so and headed home. These seem to be the more typical places that Sevillianos hang out since it’s always the perfect temperature at night.
